ARCHIVE: REFERENCES

This page was created to be able, myself, to use references in my responses to false statements in comments on YouTube videos, to avoid endless reactions on what I write in my comments and/or responses. These reactions on my comments have been too often of such a low level, just a few words one-sentence responses, downplaying my facts, while they, who react, are clearly just parroting what they heard in the mainstream media, which means: lies, half truths, twisted truths, denials because the mainstream media like it to silence facts as well. I was fed up of it and started to use references in my comments, like scientists do in their investigations, in their research papers or reviews, like for instance on platforms as ResearchGate, PubMed, De Gruyter Brill, Science Direct, Nature, etc.

It takes time to collect my references, to order these, and to use these when needed. This page is therefore an archive, to be used by everyone. Truth is the only way to peace, to stop war.

This page is frequently updated.

  • Start of the observations in Donbass, by Benoît Paré, ending in 2022, and published in the book in 2025:  What I Saw In Ukraine – 2015-2022 – Diary of an International Observer – Benoît Paré
    • BENOIT PARÉ
Benoît Paré is a former French Army reserve officer, analyst at the Ministry of Defence, and long-time international official. He was deployed eight times to crisis zones: the former Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Lebanon and Pakistan, as well as – for many years – to Ukraine.
      • From 2015 to 2022, he worked as an unarmed civilian observer for the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) in the Donbas, making him one of the very few Western observers deployed for extended periods on both sides of the contact line. Due to what he perceived as a systematic pro-Ukrainian bias of the mission, he eventually resigned. In 2025, he published his first book “Ce que j’ai vu en Ukraine: 2015–2022 – Journal d’un observateur international” (Self-published, TheBookEdition), in which, based on his diary entries, he unsparingly documents the OSCE’s one-sided reporting, the sabotage of the Minsk agreements by Ukraine, and the predominantly Ukrainian responsibility for civilian casualties in the Donbas.
      • Paré is highly regarded in sovereigntist and war-critical circles (Front Populaire, TV Libertés, Neutrality Studies, France Soir) and is considered one of the most authentic Western witness voices on the Donbas war before 2022.Details on Benoît Paré’s OSCE Missions in Ukraine (2015–2022) The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMM) was deployed on 21 March 2014 and operated until 31 March 2022 (terminated by a Russian veto against the mandate renewal). It comprised up to 1,300 unarmed international observers tasked with monitoring the ceasefire, withdrawal of heavy weapons, the humanitarian situation, and human rights across the Donbas, with a special focus on the approximately 500 km-long contact line.
    • CHARACTERISTICS OF THE BOOK – The book is not a political pamphlet but a sober, fact-rich record of a man who was on the ground for seven years and knew both sides. The tone grows increasingly angry over the years – not towards the Ukrainian population, but towards his own institution and the West, which in his view deliberately ignored the truth. It is a unique document because practically no other Western observer was active for so long on both sides and reported openly about it. The years of frontline experience, combined with his military precision and uncompromising rejection of a Manichean, black-and-white narrative, make his book one of the most important and authentic testimonies of the Donbas war.

[2] MICHAEL JABARA CARLEY
From the website “The University of Toronto Press”: Michael J. Carley is a world renowned expert on 20th-century international relations and the history of Russia and the Soviet Union. His Research interests focus on relations between the Soviet Union and Western Europe and the United States between 1917 and 1945. He has written two books and some thirty papers and essays on French involvement in the Russian Civil War (1917-1921), Soviet relations with the Great Powers between the two world wars, issues of appeasement and the origins and conduct of the Second World War. He has been published in Canada, the United States, Great Britain, France, Italy and Russia.

Professor Carley is working on two large projects.

  1. The first concerns the troubled relations between Soviet Russia/the USSR and the West from 1917 to 1930. His book, Silent Conflict: A Hidden History of Early Soviet-Western Relations, was published in late January 2014 by Rowman & Littlefield, in the US, and is available from Amazon and Indigo. It was recently recognized by the American magazine Choice as the Outstanding Academic Title, 2014 in Central and Eastern European history.
  2. His second project deals with the origins and creation of the “Grand Alliance” against Nazi Germany in the Second World War. Work on this second title is progressing well, and the provisional title is A Near-Run Thing: The Grand Alliance of World War II.

[3] UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO PRESS
Historian Michael Jabara Carley argues in his books that Stalin did not want to cooperate with Hitler; instead, Stalin tried for years to build an anti-Nazi alliance with Britain and France, and only signed the 1939 non-aggression pact as a last resort after Western powers rejected collective security.

[4] VIDEO-INFO JEFFREY D. SACHS AND MICHAEL J. CARLEY

  • A discussion of his groundbreaking trilogy on the international crises of the 1930s: Stalin’s Gamble, Stalin’s Failed Alliance, and Stalin’s Great Game. Drawing on decades of archival research, Carley challenges the familiar Cold War narrative that paints Stalin and Hitler as “dual dictators” and instead
    • UNCOVERS A FORGOTTEN HISTORY OF THE SOVIET UNION’S SUSTAINED EFFORTS TO BUILD A COLLECTIVE SECURITY ALLIANCE AGAINST NAZI GERMANY
    • Both Jeffrey D. Sachs and Michael J. Carley explore in this discussion how Britain, France, and the United States repeatedly rejected these overtures, shaped by anti-communism, imperial interests, and deep-seated prejudices that cast the USSR – not Hitler – as the greater threat. This strategic blindness, Carley argues, helped pave the way to World War II and has since been obscured by Western historiography and popular culture.
    • This episode offers listeners a powerful narrative of missed opportunities, ideological blinders, and the consequences of mistrust among great powers. It is a story from the 1930s with striking resonance today, revealing how historical misunderstanding can shape international politics, and how the failures of statecraft then echo in our world now.
